Our Programs

After School
Middle School: During our 6-8 week long After- School Program, students at participating Alexandria City Middle Schools venture to local parks to explore nature, gain new skills, and build trust and teamwork.

High School: Alexandria City High School students lead a club in which they learn to plan outings, gain leadership skills, and help Wilderness Kids to respond to the desires of our students.

Weekends
Middle School: Students hike, climb, paddle, bike and more, in beautiful natural areas throughout the DMV, on weekends and school holidays.

High School: Students enjoy hiking, biking, climbing and paddling and are given the chance to take skills to the next level in our Skills Cohorts, each focused on a particular outdoor activity​

Summer
Middle School: After a school year of adventure, students experience life in a tent, joining multi-night summer camping trips that grow their skills, give them practice living in cooperative community, and broaden their perspectives.

High School: Students contribute to the planning of their own multi-night trips to beautiful locations throughout our region and beyond
